Management of Results

Results from CPR training are important for students as well as trainers. Once the training has been completed, what do you do with those results? With SmartMan QCI it is easy to keeping a record of training results. You can easily examine trends over time, see how different classes are performing and to identify areas where improvement can take place.

Conducting Research

Accurate data is the cornerstone of solid research. SmartMan is a scientific instrument that records how well students perform various activities related to CPR. The research side of SmartMan is a tool to save, store and analyze you results. It also provides the ability to export the data for more sophisticated statistical processing of the information.

QCI Software

The SmartMan QCI program is designed to provide a trainer or administrator an overview of skills results. It provides access to summary scores. You have a unique login and a password to access this information. This page allows you to display information according to which key code has been used for the registration. By identifying groups before they are tested on SmartMan, you can use a separate SmartMan key codes to easily retrieve that summary information just for that particular group.

The SmartMan QCI software is separate software program. You must contact SmartMan to have your account set up with a login name and password. Once it is set up, you can access the information via the web from any browser.

The Results
Each time a person completes an activity, the results information is stored on the local machine. In order to process these results, they must be uploaded to the server. Once they are on the server, the QCI program will give you access to them.

Updating the Results
SmartMan Connected: Any time a person completes an activity, the SmartMan default is set up to send the data to the server. The QCI page is immediately updated.

SmartMan Not Connected: If the data from a test is not sent to the server it cannot be displayed on the QCI Page. There are several reasons that results might not appear on the QCI Page. For example, the person who logged in selected the option to turn off the internet, or the internet was on but the connection was poor or it was unsuccessful;

Results not submitted
All data from every login is stored on the local machine where the test was performed. In order to see the summary statistics in the QCI software, that information must be submitted to the server via the internet. This can be done at the time the activity was done or it can be done afterwards. There are several options on how to do this.
For a small number of results: Make sure that you are connected to the internet. Login as the person. Go to "View Previous Results". Select the test results which you wish to have on the server. Click continue. You will then be given the option to "submit" the results.

For a large number of results: 1. Create a zip file of all of the records. Send them to SmartMan and we will put them on the server; OR, 2. Contact SmartMan for a software robot that you can install on your machine. You can then connect to the internet and it will submit each of the test results one at a time. top

Setting Up For Results
Every time a student performs an activity and sees a score, the result have been produced and stored. However, this does not mean that the results are accessible to the QCI program.

Results from the Practice User: These are stored on the local machine. Since they are not registered, they cannot be automatically submitted to the database. These can be uploaded at a later time. Results form the practice user contain the date they were performed however you will have difficulty knowing which person performed.

Results form a Quick Login: These are stored on the local machine. Since they are not registered, they cannot be automatically submitted to the database. These can be uploaded at a later time. Results form the practice user contain the date they were performed however you will have difficulty knowing which person performed.

Results from a login that is registered: These are stored on the local machine or if the internet was connected, they can be automatically sent to the server. As soon as they are on the server they can be examined in the QCI software. They can also be uploaded at a later time.

Bulk Registration
You create the list of students who will attend the class. This should be in an Excel spread sheet or a comma delimited file. Fill in the list according to the headings and send it to us: Download the template which is in Excel spread sheet format. Send the completed list to us for processing.

We will register everyone for you and then send the list back to you. All you do is copy those registrations onto your computer and put them into the records folder created by the SmartMan program. top

bullet The Researcher's Corner

SmartMan introduced a new concept to the CPR training market; easy to understand visual representation as you are performing skills. This real time visual feedback is complete and accurate. Furthermore SmartMan makes the complete data available for the researcher.

time you perform a skill on SmartMan, the data for that performance is created. The visual display interprets this data and produces the real time feedback.

The raw data is stored in a file on the local computer where the skills performance was done. By default the program also tries to send this data to the server. If it is unsuccessful, it can be put onto the server later.

Since its launch, independent research has shown that SmartMan's real time feedback does indeed dramatically improve CPR skills. See a few of our unsolicited testimonials. And most importantly, use in the field his has translated into better survival outcomes; that is more people who leave the hospital under their own steam.

If you would like to organize a SmartMan demonstration, please contact us.

SmartMan Define the Question
It is important to carefully define the question you want answered before you begin the research. While SmartMan will produce the performance data, you have to interpret what the data means.

SmartMan Your Data - Who Did What
It is important that you keep track of all information, who it belongs to, when it was done, whether it was a test or a practice, etc. Many people feel they do not want to put the name of the person who performed on the file name. However when there is a large amount of data it is easy to confuse who did what.

SmartMan will record the login name, date, what type of skill was performed. It will also record whether it is a practice or not and whether it was a blind activity or done with the feedback being available to the person.

SmartMan Your Data - Where It Is
All data is stored locally on the machine that is used to perform the CPR skills.

If you have collected all of the data files from all of your computers, you can have them all submitted to the server. The SmartMan Web Crawler is designed to make sure that every file is on the server.

SmartMan Back Up Your Data
In most research you will be making use of several SmartMan units and several computers. Thus it is important for you keep track of the data that is produced.

SmartMan Data Analysis
The raw data points for the performance are in a comma delimited file. It contains all of the skills performance information related to each test. This is available to you on the hard drive where the activity was performed. This is your original raw data and you should back this up regularly. While you can process this information, mostly researchers are interested in the broader picture.

The QCI software pre-structures this original data so that it is easier to work with. This is what is sent to the server and which you can quickly analyze. The software will allow you to clean up the data, quickly see if this is what you are looking for, then once you have it the way you want, it can be exported to Excel and other statistical programs.
